Our Vision

Thriving Families SA is dedicated to transforming the current ecosystem to one that champions prevention and early supports, empowering families to thrive.

Realising meaningful change will take targeted and sustained effort over time, it will take a new approach to designing and delivering a service system that empowers people to exercise choice, control and cultural authority over decisions that affect them and their family. No single government or program can be the solution; a collective approach is needed.

We need a progressive approach to generational change

Crisis Interventions

Our resources are focused on intervening in crisis and the need continues to escalate due to lack of earlier support.

Targeted supports

Targeted services remain fragmented, limiting their ability to respond holistically to the needs of children, families and communities.

Universal supports in community

We lack truly universal, accessible and equitable services, with limited mechanisms for shared decision-making, Aboriginal self-determination, and meaningful community leadership in shaping supports.

2035 first decade of change

A paradigm shift that flips the system from fragmented and crisis-driven to an interconnected ecosystem, anchored by a strong universal backbone by 2035…

Universal supports in community

Families are engaged through universal access to community-led prevention and early supports enabling self-sufficiency, empowerment of families and Aboriginal self-determination.

Targeted and therapeutic supports

Families experiencing vulnerability and/or risk can access targeted and therapeutic integrated supports with pathways back to community-led supports or escalation to coordinated statutory and crisis supports.

Statutory and crisis supports

Coordinated statutory and crisis supports focused on immediate safety and restoration through trauma-informed care.

2045 second decade of change

A dynamic and digitally integrated ecosystem sustainably supporting children, families and communities to reach their full potential by 2045.

Universal supports in community

Families and communities are empowered and engaged to be the first supports for children, young people and families through readily available universal supports.

Targeted and therapeutic supports

Seamlessly connected targeted and therapeutic supports that are unified for all through coordination and collaboration across all sectors.

Statutory and crisis supports

Statutory responses are the leanest part of the ecosystem, providing crisis intervention with integrated pathways back into targeted and community-based supports.

Our Scope

Thriving Families SA recognises every life stage of children, young people, and the families and carers who support them.

Our mission is to enable an integrated ecosystem that provides tailored support, fosters healthy development, builds essential life skills, drives positive outcomes, and enhances overall wellbeing.

With more than half of adults having experienced trauma, this ecosystem must be grounded in trauma-informed approaches – supporting individuals, educating communities, and upskilling the workforce.

By prioritising healthy development across all life stages, we are safeguarding the next generation and laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient South Australia.

Thriving Families acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples and Nations of the unceded lands and waters we live and work upon. We recognise and respect the deep enduring connection of Aboriginal peoples to Country, culture and community. Thriving Families is committed to honouring and amplifying the voices, experience and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
